Popular Seafood of Thailand

If you love seafood and you happen to live in Pattaya then you are indeed fortunate as Pattaya has some of the most delectable seafood in the whole of Pattaya and Thailand, and restaurants such as Ruen Thai present superb seafood to our clients.

Thailand is home to thousands of miles of coastline so it is hardly surprising it has some of the best seafood in Asia, if not the world. In this blog we look at some of the favorite seafood and fish dishes in Thailand.

Thailand is rich in marine life and the seafood caught in the ocean and rivers in Thailand offer great diversity. The restaurants in Thailand can offer freshly caught crabs, lobsters, crayfish, squid, shrimps, wonderful river and sea fish of every type.

Pla Pao

Pla Pao is simply roasted whole fish stuffed with lemongrass and covered in salt. You can see Pla Pao all over the streets of Thailand being sold by street vendors, accompanied with piquant dips and sauces.

To eat you just peel away the flesh by tearing the skin, and dip the chunk of meat into the sweet, sour chili sauce.

Pla Duk Yang

Catfish are plentiful in Thailand and although not everybody’s choice due to their looks, they are packed with great flavor. A great way to eat them is smoked over a fire, the flesh is firm with an almost meat like texture and contrasts perfectly to the crispy skin.

Pla Kapong Neung Manao

One of the absolute treats on a fish menu, this Asian seabass or as it sometimes called barramundi, is one of the most popular dishes in any Thai restaurant.

A whole fish is first steamed then brought to your table sitting in a special zesty lime soup that contains, lime, garlic, chillies and cilantro. The soup has a mighty kick to it and enhances the delicate fish with an extraordinary assault on the taste buds, the unique flavors of Thai cooking all in one dish.

Miang Pla Too

Miang Pla Too is also highly popular with Thais and is a little banquet all by itself. The dish is comprised of fried Thai mackerel, soft rice noodles, napa cabbage leaves, lettuce and a whole heap of different herbs.

Basically you build the dish up yourself, take a lettuce leaf and fill it up with noodles, some fish, add some herbs and be sure to apply a liberal dash of lime / chilli sauce before devouring the whole lot.
